WILL I ESCAPED DEATH FOR THE 4TH TIME? (Part 1)

The Lion was walking alone in the tunnel, a narrow dark tunnel. It was so dark that he can’t see its own feet. But he has to continue to move forward, hoping that he would catch a glimpse of light. There was no turning back ………

It was 21st Jul 2010. It was a day where I need to see a specialist for review at Singapore General Hospital after a CT Scan 2 days back. The sky was cloudy ……….. As I laid on the clinic bed, the doctor did a quick scan and gave his diagnosis of the my previous pain in my right waist. He told that it’s alright.

“How about the lump on the left that you have mentioned previously?” I asked the doctor.

“I will need to talk to you about this. Let’s talk over there.” replied the doctor.

The sky was getting darker and darker ……….. and it appears that a storm is brewing outside.

I was brought to a sofa, the doctor launched his laptop application and showed me the picture of the CT Scan and he started explaining.

“As you can see over here (he pointed to the scan), you can see the lump ……………… This lump is over 15 cm and it’s an extension from your left kidney. If you compare the colour shades with your right kidney, this lump has uneven shades whereas your normal right kidney has an even shade of colour. This means that the cells on your left kidney are not normal kidney tissues.” the doctor continued “…….. and 99% of the chance that it is malignant.”

There was a sudden outburst of thunder.

It was a shock. I was just stunned by the news and I found myself quiet most of the time while my wife hold my hands tightly while the doctor continued his explanation of my diagnosis. I wasn’t listening to the doctor. Questions started to shout inside my head.

“Why this has to happen?”
“My mum died of lung cancer and why I am next?”
“Why?”
“What should I do?”
“My daughter is only 2.5 years old?”
“I am still young?”
The questions never seem to end.

“We do not know the extent of the spread of the carcinoma. What we need to do now is to go for further scan of the bones of your whole body and other organs in your thoracic area. If it’s localised, we will have to remove this tumour and you will be fine. If it has spread, we will have to decide another course of action” the doctor continued. “What I will arrange for you is ………”

Another sudden clap of thunder and it started to rain heavily. The Lion continued to move forward inside the tunnel. He could hear the thunder and the heavy rain but he just could not see anything. It appears to be his worst nightmare and it really was.

The story continues ………………
